Wuzhou is a city of antiquity with a long history of over 2,100 years. 183 BC, South Yue Dynasty set up Cangwu Residence City. 111 BC, Cangwu County was founded. In year 621, the name Wuzhou was firstly adopted. And in 1921, Wuzhou City was called for the first time. As the earliest city governed by Guangxi, Wuzhou has the profound cultural heritage, such as Guangxin Culture and Dragon Mother Culture.
Wuzhou is located in the subtropical monsoon climate zone, with an annual average temperature of 21.0 ℃. There are over 250 scenic spots and historical sites in this beautiful tourism city, which bring rich tourist resources. Among the unique natural and cultural scenery listed Dragon Mother Temple, Shuangdao Great Natural Waterfalls, the first Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in China, the biggest reproduction base in the world for the protected animal --- black langur, Shishan Mountain in Taiping, the founding site of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and former residence of Mr. Li Jishen(former vice chairman of CPPCC).
Wuzhou has abundant natural resources. As one of the commodity grain production bases Wuzhou has the plowland with a total area of 95,000 hectares. The forest coverage of the city reaches 72.4% with the forest area of over 870,000 hectares and the total lumber volume of 25,280,000 cubic metres. Wuzhou is the major production bases of lumber and turpentine in China. Over 30 kinds of the mineral resources such as titanium, gold and copper etc. are exploited and utilized in Wuzhou. The reserves of the granite named “Cenxi Hong, China” is 2.1 billion cubic metres. The theoretical water power resources reserves from all the rivers in Wuzhou is 1,497,000 kw. among which 1,089,000 kw. can be exploited and utilized.
Geography & Transportation
Among the 12 provinces (cities) of the West Development, Wuzhou--a city in the province being closest to Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao enjoys an obvious advantage for its location—341 km. from Guangzhou, 436 km. from Hongkong and 384 km. from Macao. Wuzhou port, with nearly 100-year history of foreign trade, has complete facilities and a sound foundation and is now under trade contacts with more than 130 countries and regions from the five continents around the world.
